Editor's note: The Resilient Roads Roundtable promotes exploration and adoption of a broad set of innovative materials and methods proven to support road resilience. Asphalt Plus is a participant in the Roundtable as rubberized asphalt continues to be a strong contributor in the sustainable, resilient roads effort.

Asphalt Plus is going international.

After numerous successful Dry Process Rubberized Asphalt projects in the US, Asphalt Plus is partnering with Tyre Recycling Solutions (TRS) and Empa to expand operations to Switzerland. Empa's Concrete and Asphalt lab led a test project in Switzerland earlier this summer to explore the benefits of replacing polymers with rubber particles in asphalt production, paving the way for future road projects made with recycled tires.

Using recycled tires in asphalt production is already standard practice in many parts of the world, and researchers at Empa believe adopting this practice in Switzerland will have significant climate benefits. Traditional methods of asphalt production release a lot of CO2. Modifying asphalt with rubber from tires that would otherwise be incinerated reduces CO2 emissions both from making the asphalt and from diverting old tires from the incinerator. Beyond that, Dry Process Rubberized Asphalt makes for longer lasting roads and reduces road noise.

Based near Chicago, Illinois, Asphalt Plus LLC is a specialty chemical and equipment manufacturing company that produces Elastic engineered crumb rubber additive for rubberized asphalt application.
