UFI Rebuild Better

September 14, 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed unprecedented strain on America's citizens, healthcare systems, and economy. As it has forced dramatic changes to how we live, work, learn, shop, and stay safe and healthy, it has had untold impacts on infrastructure systems. And the downturn in revenues from all sources threatens to cause even more economic hardship by cutting work from a sector of the economy that weathered the early days of the pandemic in relative safety and provided a critical source of jobs and income to millions of American families. Moving forward, we have an urgent need, but also an opportunity, to take stock of and recalibrate our infrastructure priorities to meet the needs of the moment and emerge stronger into a post-COVID America.

TRB Enhancing Pavement Foundation Resilience through Moisture Measurement

September 17, 2020

Accurate and timely moisture measurement is important for properly compacting geomaterials during construction and to understand the environment below existing pavements. TRB is hosting a webinar on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Eastern exploring newer, potentially less expensive and time-consuming methods that continuously measure moisture in pavement foundations. Presenters will discuss case studies that demonstrate cost savings from current moisture measurement techniques during project construction and seasonal pavement monitoring of existing roadways. They will provide information about effective instruments and systems for improving transportation asset management.

Future Proofing America's Infrastructure for a Changing World

September 18, 2020

Resilience - broadly defined - is front of mind for many Americans and policymakers on both sides of the aisle. How do we prepare our infrastructure for the challenges at our doorstep and on the horizon? For the next pandemic? The next cybersecurity attack? The next hurricane or inland flooding season? Or for the demographic, cultural, and working and learning trends that will shape our society? In order to ensure continuity of service and help our communities adapt in real-time to a changing world, our infrastructure must be resilient, flexible, and forward looking. This event will discuss those challenges and trends, and what good policy and investments are needed to ensure our infrastructure is ready for whatever the next 50 years throws at it.

IRF Building Climate Resilience into Roads & Transport Infrastructure

October 12, 2020

This online training course is designed to provide a methodical overview of climate change mitigation strategies and emergency response management. Participants will be guided through various processes aimed at conducting thorough risk preparedness assessments and the associated remedial measures. Throughout the course, the issue of successful engagement with impacted residents will be addressed. Rural roads, frequently a vulnerable link in the transport chain, will also be addressed through dedicated modules presenting design and maintenance features for weather-resilient low volume / rural roads.
